8th of October - Goathland
I spent the entire day today on the little steam railway going backwards and forwards along a 24 mile train line - and it was bliss.
The train conductor started the day off just right
and then I putted my way back to Whitby where I just wandered a bit and had morning tea looking out over the sea. Shame I can't do smells on here because this place is REALLY seaside, it stinks of fish! But it has its own charm and is a very busy place, especially considering we're in the off season.
Then I climbed back on my railway and rode all the way to the other end where I had 2 hours wandering around Pickering before catching the train back to Goathland. Pickering has bollards everywhere, all topped with these cute little knitted and crocheted bits and pieces.
I think Winston Churchill was my favourite. Of course he was, I am Gazza's daughter after all.
Pickering is big. Whitby is big. Grosmont is little, like blink and you'll miss it little. Goathland is the perfect size. I went to dinner at a lovely Pub called "The Inn on the Moor" where I taught all the bar staff about quokkas. Still, none of them seemed prepared to let me live with them. Shame.
I love it here.
