24th of September, 2025 - Ewen to Weston subEdge (Cotswolds)

Repacked the car (HOW am I needing to do this so often??) and headed off to wind my way through the Cotswolds for the whole 56 minute drive from Ewen to tonight's B&B. I drove into Cirencester and spent most of my day wandering the streets. It's a fascinating town. St. John the Baptist church is the centrepiece, so I spent quite a while in there, wandering around and trying to work out whether it's creepy or not that they've turned the crypt into the children's area. There's a LOT of headstones in that play area!

Stopped in a little cafe for lunch and then spent the afternoon in the Corinium Museum. Absolutely intriguing. When you talk history, these guys are going back to before the Romans - prehistoric times right through to today. Of course, the bits where I got stuck the longest where the Tudor and Civil War periods - Dissolution of the Monasteries and how it affected people's day to day lives. Right up my alley!

Underfloor heating. Stacks of bricks - they lay the floor on top and then
there's a furnace down where the bricks are that heats up the
bricks and warms the floor above. Ingenious!
They have the same thing in the spa rooms at the Roman Baths.

Then I drove on roads like this to get to tonight's accommodation - on an 850 acre farm in the heart of the Cotswolds.
